Slow 🎵 2/4 TWO FOURTH NOTE (1/4+(1/8+1/8))
Salsa 🎵 Why Salsa Is in 4/4
- Salsa musicians notate the music in 4/4: four quarter‑note beats per bar.
🕺 Why Dancers Count “1‑2‑3…5‑6‑7”
- Salsa dance patterns typically span two measures of 4/4, which equals 8 beats.
- Dancers step three times per measure, plus one pause for rest.
So they need two measure of pause, to complete a full cycle.
3 steps plus one pause, twice complete (3+1) +(3+1)=8
- This is why dancers count eight beats, even though the music is still 4 beats per bar.
🎵 Why a Valsa Is Ternary
Valsa 3/4 note = (1/4+1/4+1/4) .
- The classic valsa uses a 3/4 time signature, meaning each measure has three quarter‑note beats.
- The feel is strong–weak–weak, creating the circular, swaying motion typical of waltz dancing.
- This makes it a ternary meter, not binary.
